The Red Ribbon Club, Youth Club, NCC and Political Science department of Swami Premanand Mahavidyalaya, Mukerian celebrated Voters Day on 25 January 2022 to encourage more young voters to take part in the electoral process.
Apprising about the significance of this day, Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma stated that on this day, the Election Commission of India creates awareness about the need to participate in the electoral process through voting. He said that every voter should value their right to vote and realize that it’s a privilege to be a voter in the largest democracy in the world. He added that the foundation of a successful democracy is laid on sound electoral processes.
In his remarks Dr. Gopi Sharma (SWEEP Nodal officer & Incharge NCC) noted the tradition of democracy in India. Dr. Amrinder Kaur (HOD Political Science) highlighted the importance of voting as it serves the central pillar of any functioning democracy. Asst. Prof. Anuradha (Incharge Red Ribbon & Youth Club) expressed heartfelt gratitude to the college principal, the college managing committee and participants. In addition, the voter’s pledge was also administered by students. Dr. Arun Kumar, Dr. Pushpinder Kumari and Asst. Prof. Tarandeep Kaur took part in the pledge ceremony.
