Webinar to commemorate 400th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur at SPN College

To commemorate the 400th Birth Anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur ji, the post graduate departments of History and Punjabi, in collaboration with NSS wing, jointly organised a national webinar on the topic “Hind Di Chadar- Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji” on April 07, 2021.

Dr. Pushpinder Kumari,Head, Department of History, in her prefatory address welcomed Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma and keynote speaker Dr. Charanjit Kaur Mann, Associate Professor of History, Guru Nanak Dev University College, Mukandpur.

Principal, Dr. Sameer Sharma expressed a heartfelt gratitude to the keynote speaker and participants. He shared his views on the values that Sri Guru Teg Bahadur ji’s teachings have for Sikhism and Indian culture. He deemed Guru ji’s martyrdom as an inspiration to the people. He said the strong foundation of Sikh religion is attributed to the golden words and deeds of the gurus who sacrificed their lives to give a special identity to the community.

Dr. Charanjit, delineated that Guru Teg Bahadur ji fought against forced conversion and other religious impositions before he was beheaded on the orders of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. Guru Teg Bahadur ji was a merciful saviour of the weak, and that is what he preached. He taught his disciples to protect the ones who need protection, even if it comes at the cost of one’s own life. He preached the humanitarianism we need today.

Dr. Kiranjit Kaur, Head, Department of Punjabi, proposed a vote of thanks to the keynote speaker, the college principal, the college managing committee and participants.
