The Women Development Cell and NSS Wing of Swami Premanand Mahavidyalaya (SPN College), Mukerian celebrated International Women’s Day with great enthusiasm, dignity, and a spirit of empowerment on the college campus. The event aimed to spread awareness about women’s rights, gender equality, and the importance of women’s empowerment in modern society.
The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing knowledge, positivity, and progress. Students and faculty members participated wholeheartedly, making the celebration vibrant and meaningful. A variety of cultural activities and performances were organized to highlight the achievements, struggles, and contributions of women in different fields.
On this occasion, Mrs. Varsha Swaraj graced the event as the Chief Guest, while Mrs. Meenakshi Anand attended as the Guest of Honour. Other distinguished guests present included Mrs. Alka Lakhanpal, Mrs. Shukla Mahajan, Mrs. Sunita Shakar, and Mrs. Renu Agrawal. Their gracious presence added dignity and inspiration to the celebration.
Addressing the gathering, the Principal of the college, Dr. Sameer Sharma, emphasized that International Women’s Day serves as an important reminder that respecting women and safeguarding their rights is a collective responsibility of society. He further stated that educated, confident, and empowered women form the backbone of a progressive and developed nation. He appreciated the efforts of the Women Development Cell and NSS Wing for organizing such a meaningful program that inspires students to understand the value of equality and respect.
The Program Coordinator, Dr. Sonia Sharma, in her address highlighted that women empowerment is not merely a concept but a social necessity in today’s world. She encouraged the students, especially young women, to remain aware of their rights, pursue education and self-confidence, and actively contribute towards building a more equal and progressive society.
The event also featured a series of cultural performances presented by the students, including dance, modeling, and thematic presentations that beautifully portrayed the strength, resilience, achievements, and role of women in society. The performances were highly appreciated by the audience and created an atmosphere of enthusiasm and inspiration across the campus.
A special highlight of the program was the Modeling Competition, organized to celebrate confidence, grace, and individuality among students. At the end of the competition, Megha was crowned Miss SPN, Harpreet Kaur received the title of Miss Beautiful, and Simranjit was awarded the title of Miss Charming.
In this program, Mrs Harpinder Kaur, Patron of Manavta Welfare Society, Budhawad, along with the President of the society, Yashkaran Singh, delivered an informative PowerPoint presentation on women’s health and hygiene. They also distributed free organic sanitary pads among the girl students, spreading awareness about menstrual health and encouraging hygienic practices.
The entire program was successfully hosted and coordinated by Dr. Sonia Sharma, whose efforts ensured the smooth conduct of the event. In the concluding session, she expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma and the College Management Committee for their constant guidance and support in making the event a grand success.
The celebration concluded on a joyful and inspiring note, with the presence of all female staff members and a large number of students, who actively participated and contributed to making the event memorable. The program truly reflected the spirit of women’s empowerment, equality, and respect, leaving a lasting message for everyone present.
