The Faculty of Sciences at Swami Premanand Mahavidyalaya celebrated National Science Day 2026 with great zeal and academic fervor under the theme “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat.” The event was marked by a series of inter-college competitions aimed at promoting scientific temper, creativity, and innovation among students while commemorating the spirit of scientific inquiry.
The celebration featured a variety of competitions, including poster making, model making, quiz, declamation, and PowerPoint presentations. Students from various colleges across Hoshiarpur district participated enthusiastically, showcasing their knowledge, creativity, and research aptitude. The campus witnessed a vibrant exchange of ideas and healthy academic competition throughout the day.
Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma formally welcomed the distinguished guests, Sh. Sanjeev Anand ji, Chief Guest and Secretary, SPN College Management Committee, and Dr. Rajesh Lakhanpal ji, Guest of Honour and Auditor, SPN College Management Committee. In his address, Dr. Sameer Sharma underscored the importance of organizing inter-college competitions on National Science Day, stating that such platforms nurture scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and collaborative learning among students.
Dr. Rajesh Lakhanpal ji elaborated on the significance of National Science Day and emphasized the pivotal role of science in national development and societal progress. He encouraged students to cultivate a scientific outlook to address contemporary challenges effectively.
Chief Guest Sanjeev Anand ji appreciated the commendable efforts of the organizing team and applauded the participants for their innovative ideas and presentations. He motivated students to strive for excellence in scientific research and innovation, asserting that the future of the nation rests in the hands of young scientific minds.
An insightful initiative by the Department of Sanskrit, headed by Dr. Gopi Sharma, highlighted the Indian Knowledge System through experiential illustrations. The initiative emphasized that the Indian Knowledge System is not merely mythology but a well-established methodology rooted in scientific reasoning and practical wisdom.
The event was jointly convened by Dr. Arun Kumar, Vice Principal and Head, Post Graduate Department of Physics, and Prof. Narain Singh, whose dedicated efforts ensured the smooth conduct of all competitions. The programme was efficiently moderated by Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Head, Department of Biology, who maintained the flow of the event with clarity and enthusiasm.
