National Seminar on “Mental Health in the Digital Age”, sponsored by the College Development Council, Panjab University, was successfully organized by the Institution’s Innovation Cell of Swami Premanand Mahavidyalaya, Mukerian. The seminar aimed to address the growing concerns of mental health challenges in today’s fast-paced and technology-driven world.
The event was graced by eminent dignitaries including the Chief Guest, Sh. Sanjeev Anand Ji, Secretary, SPN College Management Committee; Guest of Honour, Dr. Rajesh Lakhanpal Ji, Auditor, SPN College Management Committee; Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma; Keynote Speaker Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj; and Invited Speaker Dr. Fulbagh Singh. Faculty members, students, and research scholars from various universities and colleges actively participated in the seminar, making it a vibrant academic gathering.
The seminar commenced with an inaugural session comprising a warm welcome address followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma extended a heartfelt welcome to the esteemed guests, participants, faculty, and students. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh for sanctioning and sponsoring the seminar. In his address, he highlighted the critical importance of mental health in today’s demanding and digitally dominated lifestyle, emphasizing the need for awareness, resilience, and balanced digital engagement.
The dignitaries were felicitated as a token of respect, and the Seminar Proceedings Book was formally released. Dr. Deepika Sharma presented an overview of the objectives and significance of the National Seminar, outlining its focus on understanding psychological well-being in the digital era.
Chief Guest Sh. Sanjeev Anand Ji appreciated the commendable efforts of the organizing committee and emphasized the collective responsibility of institutions and communities in addressing mental health issues and supporting those affected. Guest of Honour Dr. Rajesh Lakhanpal congratulated the organizers and encouraged the youth to proactively manage stress, adopt positive coping strategies, and channel their energies towards constructive outcomes.
The technical sessions proved to be highly enriching. The keynote address by Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj and the insightful lecture by Dr. Fulbagh Singh added immense value by discussing emerging mental health challenges, digital stressors, and practical solutions for maintaining psychological well-being. The second technical session featured both online and offline paper presentations by scholars from various institutions, reflecting diverse research perspectives on mental health in the digital age.
Dr. Gurpreet Kaur efficiently conducted and moderated the stage proceedings, ensuring the smooth and systematic flow of the programme. The Co-Convener of the seminar, Prof. Dalwinder Kumar from the Department of Economics, played a pivotal role in the successful execution of the event.
The seminar concluded with a valedictory session in which participants were felicitated with certificates for their valuable paper presentations. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. Deepika Sharma, Convener of the Seminar, who expressed sincere gratitude to the College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh, the SPN College Management Committee, Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma, the distinguished speakers, participants, and all those who contributed to the successful organization of the seminar.
