The Department of Biology, in collaboration with the Red Ribbon Club, organized an awareness campaign on the occasion of World Cancer Day under the able guidance of Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma. The programme was conducted with the objective of sensitizing students and the general public about cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of timely treatment, in alignment with the global theme “United by Unique.”
Addressing the gathering, Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma emphasized that it is the moral responsibility of the youth to spread awareness about serious health issues like cancer. He highlighted the pivotal role of educational institutions in acting as guiding landmarks for society by promoting health awareness, preventive care, and social responsibility among students.
Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Head, Department of Biology, delivered an informative session introducing students to various types of cancer, their prognostics, risk factors, and preventive measures. She further discussed relevant case studies to enhance students’ understanding and encouraged them to stay informed about recent advancements in cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Students of B.Sc. Medical actively participated by delivering insightful speeches on the latest research, innovations, and new treatment methods related to cancer detection and management. Their presentations reflected a strong academic understanding and commitment to spreading scientific awareness.
To strengthen the impact of the campaign, students prepared creative and informative posters highlighting key messages about cancer awareness, early symptoms, and preventive strategies. An awareness rally was also organized, during which students interacted with members of the public, discussed their health concerns, and counseled them about cancer prevention and the importance of regular health check-ups.
The event was efficiently coordinated by Prof. Meenu and Prof. Isha Sharma, whose efforts ensured the smooth execution of the programme. Dr. Jyoti Sharma also graced the occasion with her presence and motivated the students.
The awareness campaign proved to be a meaningful initiative, fostering social consciousness among students and reinforcing the institute’s commitment to community health and well-being.
At the end of the event, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur expressed gratitude to SPN College Management Committee and Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma for their cooperation and support in conduct of the event.
