Department of Home Science and Fashion Designing Organize a Diwali-Themed Exhibition

The Department of Home Science and Fashion Designing of Swami Premanand Mahavidyalaya, Mukerian organized a vibrant Diwali-themed exhibition to celebrate the spirit of creativity, culture, and skill-based learning. The event aimed to showcase the artistic talents of students while promoting the concept of “Earning by Learning.”

Sharing details about the exhibition, Prof. Harpreet Kaur, Head, Department of Home Science stated that the initiative was part of the college’s ongoing efforts to blend academic education with hands-on skill development. The exhibition featured a wide range of handmade household and decorative items crafted by the students, including eco-friendly Diwali décor, embroidered fabrics, painted bottles, and creatively designed accessories. Each exhibit reflected the students’ imagination, craftsmanship, and understanding of sustainability.

Prof. Harpreet Kaur further highlighted that such events serve a dual purpose — they not only nurture the creative potential of students but also prepare them for future entrepreneurial ventures. She added, “Our goal has always been to provide students with opportunities to transform their skills into viable career options. This exhibition stands as a living example of that mission.” She also mentioned that the departments plan to hold similar exhibitions on a larger scale in the future, enabling students to explore more avenues for self-employment and professional growth.

Adding to the festive spirit, a series of competitions such as Diya Decoration, Bottle Decoration, Embroidery Art, and Painting were also organized. Students participated with great enthusiasm, presenting innovative and artistic creations that added vibrancy to the event.

Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and lauded the efforts of both departments and the students. In his address, he appreciated the students’ creativity and dedication, remarking that such programs play a crucial role in bringing out their hidden talents. He emphasized that initiatives like these align perfectly with the college’s vision of “Earning by Learning,” empowering students to become self-reliant through practical skills and innovation. “These platforms encourage students to recognize their potential, develop confidence, and cultivate a sense of pride in their craft,” he said.

Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma also reiterated that Swami Premanand Mahavidyalaya has always been committed to the holistic development of its students — nurturing their intellect, creativity, and professional skills in equal measure. He assured that the college will continue to organize such productive and skill-oriented initiatives in the future as well.

Towards the conclusion of the event, Prof. Harpreet Kaur expressed heartfelt gratitude to the College Managing Committee and Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma for their consistent encouragement and support. The event witnessed the active presence and participation of Prof. Monika Saini, Ms. Jyoti, and all the enthusiastic departmental students, who together made the exhibition a resounding success.
