A one-day National Seminar on “Yoga and Indian Knowledge Tradition: A Practical Approach to Health and Spirituality” was successfully organized today at Swami Premanand Mahavidyalaya, Mukerian. The event was jointly hosted by the Departments of Sanskrit and Physical Education and was sponsored by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi under Celebration of International Yoga Day 2025 Scheme.
The seminar commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and floral welcome of the guests. Dr. Gopi Sharma, the compere of the event, introduced the theme and set the context. College Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma formally welcomed the dignitaries and emphasized the need to promote India’s ancient knowledge systems on global platforms.
Shri Sanjeev Anand, Hon’ble Secretary of the College Management Committee, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, he highlighted the scientific essence of yoga in Indian tradition and its relevance in the modern world.
Distinguished scholars presented their insights on the theme. Dr. Virendra Kumar (Head, Sanskrit Department, Punjabi University, Patiala) as the keynote speaker, delivered a talk on Yoga and Spirituality.
Dr. Mansi (Assistant Professor, Department of Sports Science, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Sports University, Patiala) elaborated on the importance of yoga in leading a healthy life.
Dr. Omnadeep Sharma (Assistant Professor in Sanskrit and Pali Department, Punjabi University, Patiala) discussed the significance of yoga within the Indian Knowledge Tradition.
The technical session was chaired by Prof. Sudhanshu Kumar Sarangi (Professor, Sanskrit Department, Vishweshwar Vishwabandhu Institute of Sanskrit and Indological Studies, Sadhu Ashram, Hoshiarpur), who concluded with a detailed discussion on yogic practice and renunciation.
Several teachers and research scholars also presented their papers. An interactive session with students was held, where queries related to stress-relieving yoga postures were addressed. A parallel online technical session was also conducted, featuring 10 paper presentations.
In the valedictory session, the organizing secretaries Dr. Gopi Sharma (Head, Sanskrit Department) and Dr. Chandra Shekhar (Head, Department of Physical Education) extended heartfelt gratitude to ICPR for financial support, to the College Management and Principal for their continuous guidance, and to all participating scholars and guests.
The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, research scholars, students, and invited dignitaries.
