A two-day workshop on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Prevention was organized by NSS unit of the College at Swami Premanand Mahavidyalaya, Mukerian, in collaboration with the Youth Development Center, Hoshiarpur, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited.The workshop focused on preventing the increasing prevalence of addictive substances. Prominent leader Mr. Vijay Sampala, Chairman National SC Commission, Govt of India chaired as the chief guest in this workshop. Mr. Sanjeev Anand, Secretary and Mr. Arunesh Shakar, representing the SPN College Management Committee, were special guests. Dr. Sonia Sharma, the NSS Coordinator, welcomed all the guests and students and introduced the workshop’s theme. College Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma welcomed the guests and praised the program, encouraging students to actively participate.
Sh Vijay Sampala commended the college for organizing this workshop and emphasized the need for the youth to be strong in the face of substance abuse. He stressed that a strong society requires empowered youth, who can raise awareness about the harmful effects of addiction on both individuals and society.
On the first day, Dr. N.K. Lath, Ret.IAS discussed the harmful effects of addictive substances in detail, making students aware of their impact on society. On the second day, Mr. Sanjeev Jakhmi expressed his valuable thoughts on addiction-related government campaigns.
Additionally, a poster-making competition on drug abuse prevention awareness was held, and the winners were honored. Dr. Sonia Sharma thanked the guests, the College Management Committee, and College Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma. She also expressed gratitude to Hindustan Petroleum Corporation’s Saurav Kora, Youth Development Center, Hoshiarpur’s Mr. Karan Bhushan, Neetish Kumar, and their colleagues for their support. The NSS students and other staff members were present at this event.
