Dance, Music and Masti to Celebrate Teej

Swami Premanand Mahavidyalaya, Mukerian celebrated Teej festival with fervour and gaiety on August 19, 2023. Mrs. Chanchal Narang graced the occasion as the chief guest of the day. The guests Mrs. Varsha Swaraj, Mrs. Minakshi Anand, Mrs. Shukla Mahajan, Mrs. Dimple Salaria, Dr. Seema Sharma, Mrs. Suman, and Mrs. Renu Aggarwal were gracefully welcomed in traditional style. Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma said the Teej festival is renowned for its symbolic representation of greenery or “hariyali” that the rain brings with it. He congratulated the EMA Department and the Youth Club for organising the event. Mrs. Chanchal Narang highlighted the festival as a cherished occasion for women, daughters, and sisters, emphasising its deep-rooted cultural value.

Teachers and students donned traditional Punjabi attire, infusing the festival with a deep sense of cultural pride. It was a gala time for students as they performed Gidha, Punjabi lok nach, lok geet and enjoyed swings. The intermittent rain during the festivities added colour to the fiesta. To pep up the festival mood, Ms. Teej and Mehandi competitions were organised. Payal of BA 2 won the Ms. Teej title. In the Mehandi competition, Archna of MA1 English won first prize and Shanu and Gurdeep Attri were declared second and third. The dance performance by the guests to the line of folk tunes made this year’s celebration an unforgettable spectacle. Dr. Kiranjit Kaur and Ms. Shaina moderated the event with ease and elan. The extravaganza ended with a formal vote of thanks offered by Ms. Anuradha.
