The Department of Biology at Swami Premanand Mahavidyalaya, Mukerian undertook an awareness campaign on the occasion of World Lung cancer Day under the support and guidance of Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma . The objective of this event was to alert the general public about this deadly ailment and to promote research on this to defeat the stigma associated with the disease. This programme themed ‘A breath of prevention is better than expectation on long term survival’ involved a lecture cum video presentation by Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Head, Department of Biology. She presented and illucidated the history and risk factors associated with the lung cancer. Also an interplay between genetic and environmental factors responsible for such health issues were discussed by her. Principal Dr. Sameer Sharma encouraged such awareness campaigns on public heath domains which can serve as an alarm to be cautious so that the timely treatment and the use of precautionary approach could be a source of increased survival rate among the lung cancer patients. Prof. Meenu discussed the case studies on such patients and their effects on one’s health and the family . Prof. Isha explained the dietary intake which can be helpful in reducing the effect and sometime to overcome during the initial stages of the lung cancer. The Biology society members Anandika, Isha, Shivani and Jyotsna made all the neceaary arrangemts for the conduct of the event. The students participated with keen interest and pledged that they will guide and spread the awareness on such ailments to the society.
